Why Instagram bans accounts without explanation
Meta’s enforcement is automated. When your account is banned “for no reason,” it almost always means one of the following triggered the algorithm:- Mass reporting: Coordinated reports from competitors or trolls — often used in influencer harassment campaigns.
- Login from unusual location: If you traveled internationally, used a VPN, or logged in from a new device.
- Inauthentic behavior: Using third-party automation tools, engagement pods, or buying followers.
- Content policy violations: A single post Meta’s AI misclassified as adult content, hate speech, or spam.
- Underage flag: If Meta thinks you’re under 13, the account is permanently disabled.
- Linked to a banned account: If your phone, IP, or device fingerprint matches a previously banned account.
The appeal that actually works
The default “Request Review” button in the app has a low success rate. The appeal that works is:- Selfie video verification: Visit help.instagram.com/contact/606967319425038 and select “I think my Instagram Account was deactivated by mistake.” Submit a 30-second selfie video. Meta uses this for facial recognition match against your historical photos.
- Government ID upload: If you’re 18+, include a driver’s license, passport, or state ID matching the name on your account.
- Detailed appeal text: Explain when the ban occurred, what you were doing, and why you believe it was a mistake.
Expected timeline
Selfie video appeals typically resolve in 24–48 hours. ID-based appeals take 3–7 days. Meta Verified subscribers ($14.99/month) get prioritized review within 12 hours. What NOT to do
- Don’t submit multiple appeals.
- Don’t create a new account on the same device.
- Don’t pay “recovery hackers” on social media.
