How to Report a Facebook Impersonation Account

Facebook impersonation is one of the fastest-growing forms of online identity abuse — fraudsters create fake profiles using your name and photos to scam your friends, run ads in your image, or sell stolen products. Meta says it removes more than 1.3 billion fake accounts every quarter, but the burden of reporting a clone of your account still falls on you. This guide walks you through the exact reporting flow that works in 2026.

Step 1: Find the impostor profile

Search Facebook for your full name. Note the exact URL of the fake profile (right-click → Copy link). Take screenshots of the profile photo, cover image, and any posts. You’ll need these as evidence.

Step 2: Use Facebook’s official report flow

Go to the impostor’s profile and click the three-dot menu (•••) → “Find support or report profile” → “Pretending to be someone” → “Me”. Facebook will ask you to upload a government-issued photo ID. The name on your ID must match the name on your real Facebook account.

Step 3: Use the dedicated impersonation form

If you don’t have a Facebook account (or can’t access the in-app flow), submit a report at facebook.com/help/contact/169486816475808 — Meta’s dedicated impersonation reporting form. You’ll need:
  • The URL of the fake profile
  • Your full name
  • A copy of your government-issued ID
  • Optional: links to your real social profiles for cross-reference

Step 4: Notify the people being scammed

Post a public warning on your real account asking friends to block and report the impostor. Many impersonation attacks rely on tricking your contacts — getting them to report the fake account speeds up Meta’s response.

Step 5: Document and escalate if needed

Meta typically responds within 24–72 hours. If the impostor isn’t removed within 5 business days, file an FTC complaint at reportfraud.ftc.gov and consider a state attorney general filing — Meta responds faster to government inquiries than to repeat individual reports.

When impersonation crosses into fraud

If the fake account is being used to scam money, run unauthorized ads, or impersonate you in business communications, this is criminal identity fraud. File a police report and contact your local FBI field office. The police report dramatically accelerates Meta’s removal process.

Need professional help?

Severe impersonation cases — where the attacker has built a network of fake accounts, runs malicious ads in your image, or impersonates a verified brand — often require legal escalation directly with Meta’s brand protection team. AccRevert’s Policy Ban Override and Hack Recovery Protocol services include direct escalation channels for these cases. Submit your case for review for a fast initial assessment.
